"Discover Edge Lite, a compact yet powerful version of Big Network's Edge Pro. Ideal for small offices, work-from-home setups, and IoT applications, Edge Lite offers robust networking functionality in a portable form factor.

Networks come in a variety of sizes and use cases, and at Big Network, we’re passionate about connecting all of them together, securely and simply. Today we’re excited to share Edge Lite, a smaller version of Edge Pro, now available in Public Beta. Edge Lite is built upon an ARM CPU, 4GB RAM, and 2x Gigabit Ethernet Ports. Edge Lite is perfect for Remote Access for Teams (who want a physical Ethernet port), providing networks to surveillance cameras, access control systems, and building management systems, as well as a slew of Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

How it works

For software, we start with NodeOS, Big Network’s customized Linux distribution. NodeOS provides the framework for a remotely managed Edge Pro node, including remote configuration, software updates, log streaming, and centralized telemetry. From there, we launch the FD.io Project’s Vector Packet Processing (VPP) framework, an open source network dataplane optimized for devices like Big Edge. VPP provides a robust and stable interface to Intel’s Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) which in turn enables robust kernel-bypassed networking functionality at wire speed. Lastly, we layer on software to enable Big Network’s Cloud Network functionality.
